When Anxiety Shows Up (And What to Do When It Does)
Let’s be honest—anxiety doesn’t always announce itself.
Sometimes it shows up as racing thoughts at night.
Sometimes it’s the tight feeling in your chest for no clear reason.
Sometimes it’s exhaustion from carrying worries you don’t even know how to explain.
If that’s you, I want you to hear this first: you’re not weak, broken, or failing. You’re human.
Anxiety is something so many of us face, especially in seasons of uncertainty, transition, or quiet overwhelm. And while it can feel isolating, you are far from alone.
Anxiety Isn’t the Absence of Faith
One of the most discouraging lies anxiety tells us is that we “should be stronger” or “trust God better.” But anxiety doesn’t mean you lack faith—it means your heart is tired and looking for safety.
God is not disappointed in you for feeling anxious. He meets you in it.
Faith doesn’t mean never feeling afraid. It means bringing your fear to God instead of carrying it by yourself.
Small Steps Matter
When anxiety feels heavy, you don’t have to fix everything at once. Sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is take one small step:
Take a deep breath
Step outside for fresh air
Write down what’s worrying you
Say a simple prayer like, “God, I need You right now.”
Those moments count. They really do.
You’re Allowed to Slow Down
Anxiety thrives when everything feels rushed and loud. Slowing down—even just a little—creates space for peace to breathe.
Rest isn’t a reward for finishing everything on your list. It’s a gift God invites you into right now.
You don’t have to earn calm. You’re allowed to receive it.
God Is Near—Even When Your Thoughts Are Loud
Anxiety can make it hard to hear anything else, but God’s presence isn’t dependent on how calm you feel. He is steady even when your mind isn’t.
When your thoughts spiral, gently remind yourself:
God is with me.
This feeling will not last forever.
I don’t have to carry this alone.
Sometimes peace doesn’t come as a sudden calm—it comes as quiet reassurance that you are held.
One Day at a Time Is Enough
You don’t have to figure out tomorrow, next week, or the rest of the year today. Grace meets you in this moment.
Be kind to yourself. Celebrate small victories. And remember: anxiety may be part of your story, but it is not the end of it.
God walks with you—step by step, breath by breath, grace upon grace.
And that is more than enough for today. đź’›
