ENCOURAGEMENT

1/10/20262 min read

We tend to think that if we can’t do everything, then we’ve done nothing.

But that simply isn’t true.

So many of us begin with big dreams: deeper faith, healthier habits, more peace, more consistency, more time with God. And while those are beautiful desires, they can sometimes feel so overwhelming that we freeze before we even start.

Then discouragement sneaks in.

“I should be further along.”
“I should be better at this by now.”
“If I can’t do it all, what’s the point?”

But Scripture gently reminds us:
“Do not despise these small beginnings.” — Zechariah 4:10

God often works through small things.

Small steps still move you forward.
Small moments still matter.
Small acts of faith still count.

Jesus even said that faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains (Matthew 17:20). That means your tiny, imperfect efforts are not overlooked. They are seen. They are valued.

Reading one verse is better than reading none.
Praying for one minute is better than not praying at all.
Drinking one glass of water, writing one sentence, folding one load of laundry—these things are not insignificant.

They are seeds.

And seeds don’t look impressive at first. But they grow.

Paul reminds us:
“Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” — Galatians 6:9

When we focus only on big, dramatic change, we often miss what God is doing in the quiet, ordinary moments. We miss the gentle progress. We miss the grace.

God doesn’t ask you to transform your entire life overnight. He invites you to walk with Him—one step at a time.

“The steps of a person are established by the Lord.” — Psalm 37:23

And sometimes, that step is simply showing up.

So today, if you feel behind, overwhelmed, or discouraged, let this be your reminder:
You don’t have to do everything.
You just have to do the next small thing.

Jesus said,
“Whoever is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much.” — Luke 16:10

Progress doesn’t have to be loud to be real.
Faith doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful.
And you don’t have to carry it all at once.

God meets you in the small beginnings.

And that is more than enough. 🤍

A Gentle Action Plan for Today

You don’t need to do everything today. Just choose one small thing.

• Read one verse.
• Whisper a short prayer.
• Write one sentence in your journal.
• Drink a glass of water.
• Step outside for a moment of fresh air.
• Tidy one small space.

Ask yourself: What is one small step I can take right now?
Then take it—without guilt, pressure, or comparison.

Small faithfulness matters. And God sees it all.

Closing Prayer

Lord,
Thank You for meeting me in the small beginnings. When I feel overwhelmed or discouraged, remind me that You are not asking me to do everything—only to walk with You one step at a time.

Help me to be faithful in the little things today.
Give me grace when I feel behind.
Give me peace when I feel pressured.
And give me courage to keep going, even when progress feels slow.

Thank You for seeing every quiet effort and every small act of faith. I place this day in Your hands and trust You to lead me, gently and patiently.

Amen. 🤍
