Letting go of who you used to be isn’t always easy—but it’s part of the new life God is creating in you. This encouraging post explores how to release old habits, thoughts, and past identities while learning to walk in the truth of who you are in Christ. Core Focus
Identity + releasing the past
We love the idea of becoming new in Christ.
But letting go of the “old us”?
That’s the hard part.
Old habits feel familiar.
Old thoughts feel comfortable.
Old fears feel… safe.
But they were never meant to define you.
“Knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him…” — Romans 6:6 (NASB)
When Jesus went to the cross, your old life went with Him.
That means:
You are not your past.
You are not your mistakes.
You are not who you used to be.
But stepping into that truth takes time.
Sometimes letting go looks like:
Replacing negative thoughts with truth.
Setting new boundaries.
Choosing growth over comfort.
Trusting God even when it feels unfamiliar.
God is not asking you to fix yourself.
He’s inviting you to walk with Him as He transforms you.
Action Step
Identify one thought or habit that no longer aligns with who you are in Christ.
Replace it with a truth from Scripture.
Prayer
Father, help me release the parts of my life that no longer reflect who I am in You. Give me the courage to let go and trust You with the process of becoming new.
Amen.
