ENCOURAGEMENT

4/3/20262 min read

Good Friday is a day that feels heavy, quiet, and sacred all at once.

It is the day we remember the cross.
The day Jesus willingly gave His life.
The day love was poured out in the deepest way possible.

It didn’t look like victory.

It looked like suffering.
Like loss.
Like the end of the story.

Jesus was beaten, mocked, and crucified. The One who healed, loved, and saved was hanging on a cross.

John 19:30

“Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished!’ And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.”

Those words—It is finished—were not words of defeat.
They were words of completion.

The work had been done.
The price had been paid.
The sacrifice was enough.

Good Friday: The Day Love Was Given

The Depth of His Love...

It’s easy to read the story of the cross and move quickly toward the resurrection. But Good Friday invites us to pause here—to sit in the weight of what Jesus did.

He didn’t go to the cross because He had to.
He went because He chose to.

Because of love.

Romans 5:8 (NASB)
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Jesus saw every sin, every failure, every broken part of us—and still chose the cross.

That kind of love is hard to fully grasp.

A love that stays.
A love that sacrifices.
A love that saves.

When It Feels Like the End

For those who followed Jesus, Good Friday didn’t feel “good.”

It felt like everything they believed had fallen apart.

The Savior was gone.
Hope felt lost.
The future felt uncertain.

And sometimes, we experience moments like that too.

Moments where life feels heavy.
Where prayers feel unanswered.
Where we don’t understand what God is doing.

Good Friday reminds us that even when it feels like the end…
God is still working.

The Cross Was Not the End

What looked like defeat was actually the beginning of redemption.

The cross was not the end of the story.
It was the turning point.

Through the cross:

Sin was paid for

Grace was given

A way was made for us to be restored to God

We may not always understand what God is doing in the moment, but we can trust that His plan is always unfolding—even in the hardest seasons.

A Quiet Reflection

Take a moment today to pause and reflect on the cross.

What does it mean to you personally that Jesus chose the cross?

Where do you need to receive His grace today?

Let yourself sit in the truth of His love—not rushing past it, but truly taking it in.

Prayer

Lord,
Thank You for the sacrifice of Jesus. Thank You for the cross and the love that was poured out for us. It’s hard to fully understand the depth of what You did, but we are so grateful.

Help us to never take this gift for granted. Draw our hearts closer to You as we reflect on the cross today. Remind us that even in the hardest moments, You are still working.

Thank You for Your love, Your grace, and the hope we have in You.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Action Step

Today, take a few quiet minutes to slow down.

Read one of the Gospel accounts of the crucifixion (John 19 or Luke 23).
Sit with it.
Reflect on it.

Then write this somewhere you can see it:

“He chose the cross for me.”

Let that truth stay with you today.
